Sundance Film Festival Director Gives First Peek At 2024 Plans

The indie film world got its first look at what new Sundance Film Festival Director Eugene Hernandez has planned for 2024, beginning with more focus on in-person events.

After a week of in-person screenings, the festival will begin online showings of films from its five competition lineups on Jan. 25. Films not in competition may also opt to make their films available for online screenings.

Additional information will be unveiled in coming weeks. The early deadline for submissions is looming, and late submissions must come in by September. Less likely to be an issue, but still a concern may be the twin actor and writer strikes, though Hernandez didn’t mention that issue except in passing, writing, “This is also a challenging moment as artists fight for a more equitable entertainment industry.
