Noel Johnson was a on school trip to London's Heathrow Airport when he first saw The Beatles. 60 years later, he is thrilled he'll get a chance to hear their songs live in his home town.
Noel Johnson fondly remembers the first time he saw the Beatles. It was at an airport in London in the 1960s ... and it was loud.
"It just so happened that was the plane the Beatles were coming back from America , and that was the first time I ever saw them.Mr Johnson was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, and has loved the Beatles his whole life.So when news broke that he would be performing in his Aussie home town Newcastle, Mr Johnson was ecstatic."I mean Yesterday is one of my all time favourites … I don't think you can get past that as a fantastic song … inspiring … a bit romantic.
"Anything that's factual I love to get ... nothing sits on the shelf forever, it's there, it's listened to, it's enjoyed, it's loved.Fellow fan Phillip McIntyre said he too understood the impact Sir McCartney had."We just became wrapped up in the musical world and decided to pursue it for ourselves because it looked like a hell of a lot of fun," he said.Professor McIntyre also co-wrote a book about McCartney, which was published in 2021.
Fans travelling from all over the state are excited for the show on Tuesday at Hunter Stadium, which is expected to reach its capacity of about 30,000 people."Hotels are booked out, restaurants are full, pubs are full and that's all due to this event," venue manager Dean Mantle said.
