The group behind Rebel, Supercheap Auto, BCF and Macpac said lockdowns during the first half hurt in-store revenues, but sales grew strong;y in the second half

which owns Rebel, Supercheap Auto, BCF and Macpac brands, posted record sales over fiscal 2022 as foot traffic returned to stores in the second half, but its bottom line still sank 20 per cent.

COVID-19 lockdowns during the first half of the financial year impacted in-store revenues, however, second-half sales grew strongly as foot traffic recovered. Like-for-like sales fell by 2.8 per cent for the year but rebounded in the second half. First half same store sales tumbled 5.9 per cent due to lower footfall in CBD and large shopping malls, and fewer products due to shipping delays.Chief executive Anthony Heraghty said record online sales and the group’s strategic decision to invest in inventory in response to disrupted global supply chains underpinned the first half performance.

In May, the company flagged that it traded well over the Easter break and was taking a cautious approach to managing inventory to ensure it had “safety stock” given supply chain disruptions.
