Kids and families have reported a reduction in stress and anxiety with waggy-tailed Winston, a black labrador, by their side.

Researchers see a decrease in stress and self-reported anxiety in children who were in the presence of a justice facility dog .All participants recommended the program be rolled out across other children's courts across the state.

Criminology researchers from Edith Cowan University studied the effects a specially trained black labrador retriever, named Winston, had on child witnesses, families, and caregivers attending court.ECU criminology researcher Suz Rock said the program was a great success."For some people, that's the last thing you'd expect to see at Children's Court.

ECU criminology researcher Suz Rock surveyed children, families, and court staff about the effects Winston had on their court experience."Overwhelmingly, they said they would love to see it rolled out in other jurisdictions and other types of courts."Dr Rock said it was important to look at ways to support young people attending court, particularly victims who were required to testify.
