Many in attendance Monday night implored the Lower Dauphin School Board to take proactive steps in addressing and dealing with reports of relentless racial intimidation in the schools.

Since moving his family into the Lower Dauphin School District in 2019, Toren Dragas has only ever had one issue with the district: the relentless reports of racial intimidation.

detailing the experience of one Lower Dauphin family with what they outlined as systemic racial intimidation and a lack of urgency to respond on the part of the administration. “Racism is all around us and it’s up to us to pave the way to eliminate such horrible behavior,” said Tania Leader, alongside husband Robert Leader. “We want our children to feel safe and protected and looked after no matter their color or gender or background. When we allow cruel behavior such as racism, we are letting so many people down, including our community. We are better than this.”

Boone implored the school district to impose consequences on students who perpetrated these acts. He detailed the account of one student-athlete, who is white, who faced no consequences after spouting racial slurs and intimidation at a Black student. Marina Weidman, a student representative on the school board, said she was not shocked to learn about Kamau’s and Shekinah’s experiences.
