A car has been swept out into the ocean, schools evacuated and motorists cut off by floodwaters as a severe storm batters the New South Wales south coast. 9News
An empty car was dragged off the road and into floodwaters before being sucked out by an unstoppable torrent in the Illawarra's Stanwell Park as the storm rapidly swept through this afternoon.
The destructive storm has also caused delays at Sydney Airport with departing planes taking off 50 minutes later and arriving planes being more than an hour behind schedule.More storm cells hitting Sydney after the destruction in the Illawarra. All southbound lanes on the Princes Highway at Waterfall are closed due to floodwaters, meaning anyone travelling from Sydney to the south is unable to get through.Live TrafficTrains have been cancelled on the South Coast line between Kiama and Wollongong, with the South Coast receiving nearly 120mm of rain since 9am today.
"The weather system we're monitoring has the potential to move into the metropolitan parts of Sydney and could be problematic during peak hour traffic," NSW SES Colin Malone said.A huge 380mm fell in Greenwell Point overnight, including 178mm in two hours from 4am this morning.
