As interstate migrants continue to surge into SEQ, a new report says there’s a danger they could damage the very thing they’re flooding in for – our lifestyle and quality of life.
An influx of new residents from Sydney and Melbourne has prompted the expansion of south-east Queensland’s infrastructure and public services, but experts say Brisbane needs a clear path to remain on track and not derail its quality of life.
While the next 10 years would be mostly positive for the city, Brisbane could face challenges in preserving its specific cultural features in the face of unprecedented growth, said RSM’s managing partner in Brisbane, Steve Healey. The report warns that Brisbane needs to develop emerging sectors, including clean energy, advanced manufacturing, medical technology, and logistics, while enhancing an affordable and high quality of life.
“At the same time, local government park-building is to be commended for the vision of transforming outer-suburban quarry sites into future iconic parklands,” the report says.
