The distant relative of the royal family will be the only Australian citizen playing an official role at King Charles III’s coronation next month.
Simon Abney-Hastings, who lives in Wangaratta, is the 15th Earl of Loudoun – and a distant relative of the British royal family.Michael, born in 1942, emigrated from England to the New South Wales town of Jerilderie in 1960 and became a rice farmer and raised a family.
The 48-year-old succeeded his father Michael, the 14th Earl of Loudoun, in 2012 following his death. Picture: Twitter “I am delighted and sincerely honoured to accept the invitation by the Crown to perform the Bearer of the Golden Spurs role at the Coronation of King Charles III on the 6th of May 2023,” he wrote on Twitter.
