A handful of Melbourne suburbs have been called out as the city’s best bet for tenants. And they might even offer relief from the rental crisis in the new year.

Families hoping for a house or townhouse might consider Ardeer, where the median rent is $380 a week, Burnside, $450 a week, and Coburg North at $515 a week.

The firm ignored unemployment rates while selecting the suburbs, instead favouring access to key infrastructure including shops, health care and transport, in areas likely to see gentrification as new homes were built. Barry Plant Glenroy business development manager Charbel Kattoura said Dallas and Broadmeadows’ former commission homes were now largely being developed into townhouses, with a larger apartment complex soon to commence in the latter.“Broadmeadows was rough five years ago, but it’s definitely improved. And it’s only 13-14km from the CBD.”
