Bendigo MP Lisa Chesters displayed a balance between mothering duties and her parliamentary responsibilities during a vote on the Climate Change Bill in the House of Representatives.

There are several legislations across the Commonwealth’s state and territories which make it unlawful to discriminate against Australians in the workplace based on family responsibilities or breastfeeding. This legislation was designed as more women joined the workforce and encourages higher female participation in parliament as representatives of the broader community.
Former Greens leader Bob Brown has previously advocated for removing any barriers to women being part of the political process. “We are also in a society in which we want to encourage parents to be part of the political process, because that is central to the democratic aims of any society,” Mr Brown said.The images of little Charlie and her mother have drawn praise for the parliament’s inclusivity and positive representation of women in the workplace.in the lower house with 89 votes to 55.
