Campbell/San Jose restaurant expands to South County with a ‘Local Love’ menu
Sushi Confidential owner and chef Randy Musterer poses for a portrait inside his restaurant in Morgan Hill during the soft opening week on April 6, 2022. Ten years after joining the Santa Clara Valley dining scene, Randy Musterer — aka “Sushi Randy,” the medical researcher turned chef/entrepreneur — will throw open the Monterey Road doors of his newest Sushi Confidential at noon this Sunday, April 10.
This is his third restaurant after Campbell and San Jose , and his first in South County. He also operates stands at SAP Center and Shoreline Amphitheater. Musterer said he got a chance to experience the Morgan Hill community culture during the past eight months while waiting for permits and equipment to arrive and minor construction on the restaurant’s interior to be finished. “It felt like family, even before we officially opened.”
Indeed, the marquee at the nearby Granada Theatre, home of the MOHI Social restaurant, this week reads, “Welcome, Sushi Confidential.”Sushi Confidential’s Crispy Gilroy Garlic Roll, one of the new signature South County rolls. Fun and approachable, from the “Hot like wasabi” Instagram wall just inside the front door to the bar toward the back, which is destined to become a local hangout.
The “Local Love” doesn’t stop with food. The wine list features Morgan Hill’s Guglielmo and Mohi, San Martin’s Lion Ranch, Gilroy’s Martin Ranch and Sarah’s Vineyard, Santa Cruz’s Lightpost and San Benito County’s Alara Cellars. Beers come from Morgan Hill’s Kelly Brewing, Gilroy’s Promised Land and Alvarado Street of Monterey, and the cider from local Ten Five One. There’s also a long list of craft cocktails and sake.
