A suspect is in critical condition after being shot by Joliet police Monday afternoon.
At about 4:56 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Elmwood Avenue for a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a man walking while holding a handgun, police said. Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply, the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force said.The suspect is a 29-year-old man from Joliet. Officers rendered medical assistance to the suspect following the shooting. The suspect was then transported to an area hospital in critical condition.A handgun was recovered from the scene.
