Law enforcement had also spent most of the day searching the area near the boat launch, including a Coast Guard patrol boat out Thursday morning to search the area but did not yield any results in several hours of searching. Sauschuck said divers were being sent to search the waters in the Androscoggin River, which connects to the Kennebec, to search for any clues about Card.
Card is the suspected gunman who killed 18 people and injured 13 others. Police said the gunfire started around 6:56 p.m. Wednesday at Just-In-Time, a crowded bowling alley filled with people. Twelves minutes later, dispatchers started receiving calls about a shooting at the bar.Card was an Army Reservist who had several recent mental health incidents, including being taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation in mid-July because of erratic behavior during training at West Point.
Card had also been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks in the summer of 2023, according to a document obtained by The Associated Press. It did not provide details about his treatment or condition but said he had reported “hearing voices and threats to shoot up” a military base.
