“It is absolutely crucial to support this resolution to get the California attorney general and the DOJ to investigate this, because for some reason, our DA in San Francisco just refuses to hear about it, to do anything for justice for Banko Brown,” one resident said. “But what I also want to say is that this is not enough. It is a crucial first step, but it is the bare minimum.”
Others echoed speakers at previous meetings who asked why private security guards in the city are allowed to be armed at all. Those comments led District 5 Supervisor Dean Prestonthat would prohibit armed guards from drawing their weapons in an attempt to protect property. “I think the ‘lawlessness’ the city is seeing is that there’s no repercussions when armed security personnel and police officers turn their deadly weapons toward our Black and brown residents,” one resident said. “That is lawlessness. And that is something that seems to be excusable day after day in this city.”
