Anthony Mundine believes Mitchell and Walker have earned the right to have greater influence at the Rabbitohs.
Anthony Mundine knows former teammate Jason Demetriou will get the best out of Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker, two Indigenous players who have “sweat equity” and earned the right to have a bigger say at South Sydney.
“The system can’t handle two black fellas being the best at what they do, as far as footy, and having the influence they do at the club,” Mundine told this masthead, as he attended a boxing promotion for Tevita Pangai jnr. Mundine with Tevita Pangai jnr at the Bondi Boxing Club in Waterloo, where the former Bulldogs prop was sparring, on Thursday.“Obviously he sees the benefit of how he is playing it with Trell and Cody. He’s the best man there because Latrell and Cody have the utmost respect for him. If JD says to Latrell, ‘I need you to do this’, Latrell will do it.”
Wayne Bennett weighed into the drama on Thursday, backing his Souths successor Demetriou to get the club back on track, while also confirming how he had hoped Burgess would join the NRL newcomers last season.
