Sydney faced severe thunderstorms on Monday, bringing with it the threat of flash flooding, large hailstones, and damaging winds. Dramatic footage captured by Sydney siders showcased the wild weather conditions as the NSW Bureau of Meteorology issued warnings for ongoing severe thunderstorms impacting central New South Wales. The BOM cautioned that heavy rainfall might persist for several hours.
Western and northern Sydney, including areas like Parramatta, Hornsby, Liverpool, and Ryde, were particularly vulnerable to heavy to intense rainfall and flash flooding. Fairfield City Farm recorded a staggering 45mm of rain accumulating in just 30 minutes. The severe weather also disrupted Sydney's light rail services, with the L3 Kingsford Line halting operations between Moore Park and Juniors Kingsford. NSW Transport reported delays and diversions for several bus routes. Multiple roads were forced to close due to the heavy downpours. At Homebush, Parramatta Rd was shut down in both directions at Nipper St, prompting motorists to consider using the M4 as an alternate route. In North Parramatta, James Ruse Dr was closed southbound at Kissing Point Rd, with all southbound traffic redirected onto Kissing Point Rd. Oxford Falls Rd, between Wakehurst Parkway and Aroona Rd, faced closure as well.Beyond Sydney, regional areas including Gosford, Orange, Katoomba, Dubbo, and Parkes were also bracing for the impact of the storms. The State Emergency Service urged residents across affected regions to take precautionary measures, which included staying informed about weather updates, securing loose outdoor objects, avoiding walking or driving through floodwaters, and preparing an emergency kit. More information and updates are expected to be released as the situation unfolds

Severe Storms Expected for Sydney and East Coast CitiesThe Bureau of Meteorology predicts a storm system for Sydney tomorrow, accompanied by continuous rain until next Monday. This follows a weekend of heavy rainfall across the eastern seaboard, with some areas recording 100mm of precipitation. While the weekend's rain was caused by troughs associated with low-pressure systems, the upcoming storms will be influenced by steering winds at high altitudes. These winds are expected to increase in strength this week, leading to more intense storms as a new trough moves through the region. Weatherzone forecasts the most dangerous period for storms to be between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, affecting Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra.
