The court heard Papanicolaou gambled away her money on the pokies at the Canterbury RSL on January 2 2019, before driving to the grandmother's house with the intent to steal from her and carrying out the "utterly ferocious attack".Hanny Papanicolaou has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for murdering her elderly client.
Papanicolaou hit the grandmother with her own crockery and walking stick before repeatedly stabbing her.In handing down his sentence, Justice Wright told the court the "murder was unplanned and impulsive".Papanicolaou stared at her feet and wept as the remarks were read.Marjorie Welsh, 92, was brutally bashed by Papanicolaou in 2019.In an affidavit to the court, Papanicolaou expressed remorse.
"I am sorry for everything. Marjorie Welsh was a beautiful lady. She was always very nice to me," the affidavit read. "I wish I could go back to that day and change what happened. I pray to God for forgiveness five times a day."
