The Sydney A-League derby has been postponed after the waterlogged pitch at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium was deemed unsafe for play | smhsport

The Sydney A-League derby has been postponed after the waterlogged pitch at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium was deemed unsafe for play.

Football Federation Australia, Sydney FC and the ground staff of the venue made the decision on Saturday morning after inspecting the playing surface after torrential rain hit Sydney on Friday. The Sky Blues had been set to take on the Wanderers at 5pm on Saturday afternoon. The stadium's new drainage system was already at its holding capacity on Friday afternoon.

"With over 100mm of rain falling in the Sydney area over the past two days, and in the interest of player welfare, all parties agreed that it was not possible to play the match as scheduled today," A-League chief Greg O'Rourke said. “Whilst it is disappointing that a nearly sold-out crowd is unable to see another iconic Sydney derby today, this was the right decision to give fans as much notice as possible under the circumstances.
