Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Clement said the crew had been desperate to find the bodies and not doing so had been a blow. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said there was a possibility one of the two bodies may be that of an Australian.The New Zealand Defence Force released these images of Friday's recovery mission.In the days after the blast, 13 Australians have been repatriated to hospitals back home.
He said little was known about volcanic burns but doctors believed many of the injuries were caused by sulphuric acid. NZ Police Commissioner Mike Bush earlier said the eruption had been "dramatic and harrowing" for the local community and loved ones of the victims. "They will say 'it's their job' but the reality is we need people like that to do their job to get beyond moments like this."Australia's Foreign Minister Marise Payne earlier confirmed six bodies were removed from the island on Friday in an "extremely complex, extremely dangerous" operation.
