Volkanovski and Whittaker will fight at UFC 290 on July 9, with the Wollongong star to defend his belt against Yair Rodriguez, and Whittaker to fight South African Dricus du Plessis in a middleweight title eliminator.

That clash is more than likely to take place in Abu Dhabi in October after Makhachev travelled Down Under earlier this year.
UFC president Dana White gave indications last month the winner of Whittaker and Du Plessis in July will face middleweight champ Israel Adesanya in Sydney in September.If Whittaker qualifies, he will face Adesanya for the third time, with the Kiwi successful in their previous two bouts.
