Police will allege a 75-year-old man ran over the victim and then struck him with the axe in a targeted attack.

A man has been killed after being run over by a car then struck with an axe, in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Emergency services were called to Cabramatta West in Sydney's south-west just before 9:00 last night after receiving reports of a crash and two men fighting each other.Police also arrested a 75-year-old man, who they say was known to the victim, and seized an axe.He was taken to hospital for treatment of an unrelated medical condition, and will be released back to police once discharged.

Detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command have established Strike Force Pierson to investigate the incident.
