A family member reportedly called police about a domestic dispute between a 39-year-old man and his elderly parents at a Newport home about 2am.

North West Metropolitan Region Commander Assistant Commissioner Leanne McCusker said the man was armed with a knife and lunged at police before he was shot.The man sustained critical injuries and officers began CPR but he died at the scene."My wife and I were woken up by gunshots just after 2am," one neighbour told 9News.The man sustained critical injuries and died at the scene."It was the loudest sound I've ever heard, it was very frightening actually.
