to Facebook that they were about to head back down to base camp after spending two days acclimatising and had reached Lower Camp 4 at 7600 metres.But something happened on the descent andreported that searchers found two deceased mountaineers – Eakin and Cartier – on Tuesday, just below Camp 1.
Eakin’s friends on social media praised his generosity, spirit and love of life. Rob Norman wrote that anyone who had the pleasure “to spend even a few minutes with Matthew Eakin would no doubt come away with a renewed zest for life”. “The adventure community and everyone else who crossed paths with Matty have all lost someone special.”, a platform devoted to sharing “the epic moments of Aussies”.
Jo Stephens wrote: “Matt grabbed life by the throat and squeezed for all it was worth. He lived so many lives in his lifetime and died chasing his passion.”
