The start of construction on a $200 million upgrade to Sydney's aged Circular Quay ferry wharves and waterfront land is not expected until 2023, four years later than originally planned

A final decision on the project will be made once the design work by the two consortia is completed.

Under the so-called Circular Quay Precinct Renewal program, the 1950s-built Cahill Expressway – regarded by many as an eyesore – and elevated railway line will remain. Another condition is that the development co-exists with the existing transport infrastructure such as the train station and new light rail stop on Alfred Street.
