Sydney ’s worst train stations in terms of access have been revealed in secret documents. Thousands of lift breakdowns and wobbly stairs have made many transport hubs across the city a nightmare for many people. Villawood station, just metres from disability housing in the city’s west, is Sydney ’s most troublesome due to uneven paths, no lifts and 113 steps on a metal scaffold covered in rust. “A couple are actually coming loose as well,” commuter Ashlee Garlick said.
Deputy Liberal leader Natalie Ward said that “265 breakdowns a month shows the government needs to invest in access and maintenance”. In the Fairfield area, there are so many stations without lifts and in desperate need of upgrades the local Labor member is gathering signatures for a petition. “Help me get lifts at Carramar, Yennora and Villawood train stations,” David Saliba’s petition reads. “Our local train stations are not up to standard. They do not have lifts and are run down.
