Sydney in for wet weekend after reprieve from rain | ameliamcguiree
A month’s worth of rain is forecast to fall over Sydney in the next five days, presenting a fresh flooding risk to some parts of the state just as NSW’s school holidays begin.
Although rain is predicted until at least next Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, getting to 20 degrees on Monday and Tuesday. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts heavy rain for the Northern Territory, Queensland and the east coast of NSW this weekend, as a deepening low-pressure system moves in to end the dry start to winter.
Given the potential for river rises and flooding in the event of consecutive heavy rain, the bureau advises school holiday travellers to “consider” their plans and monitor forecasts and warnings. As it stands, there is a minor flood warning for the Lachlan River, and minor to moderate warnings for the Culgoa, Bokhara and Darling rivers.
