Collingwood fans are being made to endure an unfamiliar feeling after the reigning premiers slumped to an 0-2 start to the AFL season after being thrashed by Sydney on Friday night. And the masses reacted with their feet, leaving the MCG in droves, well before the the final siren sounded to confirm the 10.9 to 15.12 loss. It was a record-breaking 78,933-strong crowd for the two sides, whose previous best was in the 1936 grand final when 74,091 turned up.
Star ruck Brodie Grundy split his ruck battle with Darcy Cameron and had the last laugh against another of his former clubs, having starred in the Swans’ opening-round win over Melbourne. Key forward McDonald, who is out of contract at the end of the season, kicked two goals in each of the second and third terms before falling short of equalling his career-best tally when he missed a fifth shot in the final quarter.
