Sydney Thunder allrounder Daniels Sams spoken for the first time since the sickening collision with BBL teammate Cameron Bancroft that saw him knocked out and hospitalised. Bancroft’s BBL season is over and Sams is racing the clock to get back to play after the pair crashed into each other while running under a high ball in the field against the Perth Scorchers on Friday night.
Bancroft suffered a fractured nose and a fractured right scapula but was able to walk off Perth Stadium, albeit with blood pouring from his nose. But Sams had to be stretchered off the ground and taken straight to hospital where he was treated for a severe concussion. His wife was quickly flown over to Perth by the Thunder to be with him as he recovered. Now, the 32-year-old has posted an update on his own Instagram account. “Thanks for all the well wishes over the last couple of days. Has given me a lot of gratitude for the support I have around me,” he wrote. “A massive thank you to Thunder staff, Scorchers staff and Cricket Australia medical staff for looking after Cam and I. “I am on the mend and can’t wait to be back. “Go well tonight lads. So proud of this team.” Sams and Bancroft were both released from hospital on Saturday, but remain surrounded by family as they continue to recover. “Sydney Thunder players Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft will both be released from hospital this afternoon, following injuries sustained in last night’s exciting victory over the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium,” the club wrote. “In addition to sustaining a concussion, Bancroft has a fractured nose and a fractured right scapula. He will undergo further specialist assessment over the next few days that will determine a return to play date. “Daniel Sams has sustained a concussion, and will big managed in a return to play process as per Cricket Australia protocol
