NSW State Emergency Services issued 69 flood evacuation orders and more than 60 evacuation warnings by Monday morning, urging residents to avoid driving into floodwaters and to prepare to pack up and leave.
Commissioner Hogan said the severe weather would likely continue over the next 24 to 48 hours and then the SES would assess when the state should transition to recovery.
The NSW SES Acting Commissioner also reminded residents to avoid unnecessary travel amid the ongoing deluge. "The East Coast low weakened to a trough overnight as it passed over the Hunter region and will continue to bring the risk of heavy rain and flash flooding today to the Illawarra, Sydney and Hunter, before the rain eases overnight and clears on Wednesday," she said.
