Sydneysiders are set for more travel pain after the Rail, Tram and Bus Union announced a series of train strikes for August in a bid to ramp up industrial action against the New South Wales government over safety issues.
The Rail, Tram and Bus Union have planned a series of industrial actions as part of a three-week campaign throughout August in an attempt to secure “crucial safety commitments”.
“Rail workers have been left with no choice but to take further protected industrial action following the NSW Government’s continued refusal to commit to fixing the New Intercity Fleet’s safety issues,” he said in a statement on Tuesday. From August 7, workers will no longer issue fines and from 10am to 4pm on August 10 there will be a strike in area 1 - where South Sydney, Bondi Junction and Wollongong services run through.
"We’ve done everything by the book in order to get these vital safety changes, but the government is refusing to listen. “Our fight isn’t with the travelling public, it’s with the NSW Government and the management who are putting politics ahead of common-sense and safety," Mr Claassens said.
