Members of Australia’s Japanese community say they have been touched by the support shown to Shinzo Abe after major landmarks across the country were lit up to honour Japan’s longest-serving prime minister.

As the Japanese community of Australia slowly comes to terms with the loss of Mr Abe, many have expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from the Australian community. " and other leaders also spoke of the close friendship between Australia and Japan.

Masahiko Kiya, Consul-General of Japan in Sydney, who was present at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday night, said he was"deeply moved" by the gesture.
