A temple in north suburban Skokie received a bomb threat and was forced to evacuate Thursday.
Synagogues and police forces in the Chicago area and around the country are on high alert after Israeli officials said Hamas leadership has called for a "Day of Rage" Friday."That's part of the horror that we are facing, the psychological warfare of terrorism, and we cannot give into it," said Rabbi Shaanan Gelman of Kehilata Chovezei Tzion. "Part of the threat of terrorism is not just the physical threat, but the psychological threat. This is what they want.
"It said, the quote is 'lowkey bomb the Jewish mosque on the street we are on,' referring to the synagogue," Gelman said.SEE ALSO: Israel orders evacuation of 1.1 million people from northern part of Gaza, the UN says Many in this community of a few hundred Jewish families have been directly touched by the violence overseas. Some of its members are reservists called to duty. Others know of someone missing or killed.
