"Today is the first time in Taiwan's history that the home, office and headquarters of the leader of a major opposition party have been searched," he told reporters on Friday."I hope the ruling authorities explain clearly what evidence they have to take this action.

Mr Ko has been widely expected by Taiwan media to seek the presidency again at the next election in 2028. The TPP has only eight MPs in Taiwan's 113-seat parliament but has an outsized role as neither the ruling Democratic Progressive Party nor the largest opposition party, the Kuomintang , has a majority.
