Won't take it lying down

A Preston city centre takeaway has been ordered to stop operating late at night under police efforts to tackle alleged crime and disorder.

A temporary closure order was issued against Bianco on Friargate in response to concerns over crime and anti-social behaviour linked to the shop. Lancashire Constabulary requested a temporary closure order which was granted at Preston Magistrates Court in accordance with the Antisocial Behaviour Crime and Policing Act.

That means that the takeaway, which serves food including pizza, burgers and Middle Eastern cuisine, can no longer open during its 11pm-5am late night hours for the duration of the two month order. However, it can continue to serve customers outside of those hours.Preston City Council's licensing sub-committee is currently due to meet on Monday, January 23 to review the premises licence which was granted in September 2021.

When contacted by LancsLive, Bianco owner Rugda Almashhadani said that the business will fight against any attempt to remove the licence. He said that some incidents raised by the police "did not involve Bianco whatsoever" and that one involved a staff member being attacked. The business has instructed Mike Thorpe, of MRT Licensing Services, to represent it at the licensing hearing. Mr Thorpe successfully represented Tulketh Tap Room against a similar application to remove its licence in December.
