Cleveland's minicamp is brewing some excitement for the start of Training Camp in July.
On top of that, Smith, Okoronkwo and Tomlinson are of course all new additions. During these practices we got to see all of their personalities on the field and in interviews, and it was all positives -- the importance of which can’t be understated after the Jadeveon Clowney drama last year. Everyone talked about off-field bonding and discussions about collaborating on a nickname for the unit.
Between the personalities and different alignment possibilities, there’s a lot of exciting prospects to look forward to.At times last season, there was a lot of angst amongst Cleveland’s DBs -- think the secondary breakdowns in the Jets loss and the ensuing press conferences, as well as the slot corner assignment and Greg Newsome II being unhappy with getting fewer opportunities on the outside.
Among the cornerbacks, we saw just about everyone taking turns in that slot corner spot, not just Newsome. Cross training has been an important part of this preseason for the DBs to help keep players engaged and to make sure they are prepared in the event of injuries down the line.
