But the report goes on to say the county should implement an election-worker evaluation system to make sure the teams running the polls are all up to the task. That could include a written test and simulation exercises to determine whether workers are capable of performing the responsibilities. Staff with the elections office spoke with election judges who ran polling locations and they reviewed call logs and support tickets for the 1,600 calls the help center received on Election Day. Around 8 percent of those calls were related to supplies and ballot paper.
Harris County Republican Party Chair Cindy Siegel denied that claim, saying the party told its election workers:"If they call you, our advice is to talk to them. There's no reason not to." Siegel, who is also a member of the Harris County Election Commission, said she anticipates a public discussion of the report when the commission meets in January.
