The Taliban has ordered Afghanistan's hair and beauty salons to shut down, marking the latest restriction to be imposed on women since the regime came into power two years ago.

Since the Taliban regained control of the country in August 2021, women have been banned from accessing public spaces including classrooms, gyms, bathhouses and parks.

The Taliban last demanded the shut down of beauty and hair salons during its first rule over Afghanistan between 1996 and 2001. The Taliban administration has not revealed what prompted the latest restriction or when parlours will be able to reopen, according to the publication.
