Senior Labor Minister Tanya Plibersek snapped at Sunrise host Nat Barr on Monday morning as she was grilled about the free Qantas upgrades scandal currently engulfing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office. Albanese has come under fire after excerpts were published from the upcoming book by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston, The Chairman’s Longue: The Inside Story of How Qantas Sold Us Out, by the SMH at the weekend, which detailed 22 free upgrades on economy tickets.
Senior Labor minister snaps at Sunrise host over Albanese question. In the book, Aston claims the free upgrades occurred from 2009, when Albanese was the Rudd government’s federal transport minister. In April 2010, Aston claims, Albanese and his son received an upgrade from Sydney to Rome, estimated at $10,000. In the book, other bombshell claims include that Albanese would liaise directly with former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, about his personal travel.
