Australian rowing star Tara Rigney has proven she will be a red-hot chance for a medal in Paris by pushing Dutch world champion Karolien Florijn all the way to the end at the World Rowing Cup in Switzerland.

Australia's women have led the charge at the World Rowing Cup in Switzerland, bagging three of four silver medals for their country.

Competing in the first of two World Cup regattas ahead of the Paris Olympics, Australian boats featured in nine of 13 finals in Lucerne. She is looking to follow in the footsteps of retired great Kim Brennan, who won gold in the event at the Rio Olympics. Bateman and Hudson charged into the lead in the third 500 metres of their race but could not hold out the Americans, who finished 0.78 seconds ahead.
