As Tasmania's public sector workers admonish the government's belt tightening, the treasurer has not ruled out selling state-owned assets to help balance the books.

Public sector workers have called the state government's efficiency dividend 'ludicrous' and say it could cause more staff to leave.College teacher Laura Russell is pretty blunt about what it is like inside Tas mania's public school system right now.And she is expecting it to get worse.

"The idea that there is fat to cut in the Tasmanian public school system is ludicrous," Ms Russell said. One option to improve the bottom line could be selling off one, or some, of Tasmania's government-owned businesses, which Mr Ferguson has not ruled out. But Tasmania's treasury listed returns from government businesses as a revenue risk, saying a range of factors impact profitability."The budget was delivered yesterday and it looks like the treasurer is already rewriting the budget. Registered nurse Chantelle Smith is worried about the state's increasing debt levels and savings the health department are being asked to make.
