Premier Jeremy Rockliff throws his full support behind his embattled deputy at a press conference in Launceston on Monday.

Tas manian Premier Jeremy Rockliff says he has full confidence in his embattled deputy and treasurer Michael Ferguson , as speculation mounts that a majority of MPs will support a no-confidence motion in him this week.

Mr Ferguson resigned as infrastructure minister in August over the bungled rollout of new Spirit of Tasmania ferries and port upgrades, but is set to face a no-confidence motion when parliament resumes on Tuesday. He said Mr Ferguson had "accepted responsibility" for the Spirits bungle, and described the no-confidence motion as a stunt by the Labor Party.Mr Rockliff said if a no-confidence motion did pass, Mr Ferguson would resign as a minister and head to the backbench.

"I have always said in my 22 years of being a member of parliament, the will of the Tasmanian people is reflected in the Tasmanian parliament, irrespective of the makeup," he said. "And any no-confidence motion that is passed in any member of the ministry, in this case Mr Ferguson, then Mr Ferguson will resign from his ministry and go to the backbench."Photo shows a man pauses for a portrait in front of a mapPhoto shows Donald Trump waves to a crowd wearing a red Make America Great Again hat.Photo shows Man speaking in front of microphones to a group of people
