Some 1,500 protesters clashed with mounted and riot police outside the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, with fires lit in streets and projectiles hurled. The protesters significantly dropped in numbers on Thursday and Friday, however, police were still on standby and responded to a number of incidents outside the event.

The estimated bill includes preparation and responding to the protests, providing accommodation to police brought in from across the state, meals and overtime pay. A number of officers had to receive medical treatment following the violent clashes which also saw protesters allegedly throw acid and manure at police.
