Jae Casey Steuart, 49, a former English teacher at Douglas MacArthur High School, was arrested on suspicion sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student.A teacher at Douglas MacArthur High School was arrested Thursday on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with one of her students, according to an police affidavit.
A 16-year-old male, who police did not identify due to his age, reportedly told authorities that he was sexually assaulted by Jae Casey Steuart, 49, his English teacher at the school. According to the affidavit supporting the arrest, Steuart began passing the 11th grader messages during class. Eventually, she gave the minor her phone number. The two began to text each other and made plans to meet outside school.On Dec. 6, Steuart picked the student up from his home at about 10:30 p.m. and took him to a motel room in the 1200 block of Austin Highway, according to the affidavit.
After the encounter, the teen was picked up by a friend and left the premises. To police, Steuart denied any sexual contact between her and the minor. The teacher had been hired by MacArthur in August and the school terminated her Thursday, said Aubrey Mika Chancellor, executive director of communications at North East Independent School District.
