After students were given an assignment that included an excerpt that was critical of President Donald Trump, a Texas state representative said the teacher “lost the privilege” of being in a classroom.
Students were asked to pick one of four conclusions the author would most likely agree with and one of four inferences a reader would make. Newsweek reached out to the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District but did not receive a response in time for publication. Cain said Chris Felder, who he called a “concerned parent whose child was exposed to this indoctrination,” criticized the assignment for being “out of place.” Felder argued that the “non-factual rhetoric” in the assignment doesn’t belong in the school system, regardless of who is occupying the Oval Office.
