Teal candidate Jacqui Scruby has revealed she is considering running in the Pittwater by-election after the state Liberal MP resigned following shock child sex charges.

Rory Amon quit the Liberal Party and resigned from NSW Parliament on Friday after he was charged with an array of child sex charges, including five counts of intercourse with a person between 10 and 14-years-old.

Ms Scruby said she was considering a run at the upcoming Pittwater by-election after the former member quit NSW Parliament amid child sex charges. Picture: SuppliedTo those asking whether I will run as an Independent again – I’m considering it, and am taking time now to hear what leadership and representation the people of Pittwater want next."The resignation of Pittwater's Liberal MP is confronting news that’s left many of us in shock," she said.

After the charges against Amon arose on Friday, NSW Opposition Leader Mark Speakman asked the electorate's former member Rob Stokes to run for his old seat, but was rebuffed - as Sky News Australia’s Political Editor Andrew Clennell revealed. Some in the Liberal Party believe the charges against Amon could torpedo any chances of a by-election win, according to The Daily Telegraph.“There is no way we’re going to win it,” one state executive source said. After the charges came to light, Mr Speakman asked Amon to resign from his position as the trial was ongoing.
