Wakehurst has been won by independent Michael Regan, while teal candidates in Manly and Pittwater remained contenders as voting was adjourned on Saturday night.
Independent and popular local mayor Michael Regan has snared the northern beaches seat of Wakehurst from the Liberal Party, an electorate that had been held by retiring Health Minister Brad Hazzard held for 30 years.
“I’ve been the mayor since 2008, as an independent ... but I think, to some degree, people feel safer voting for independents now, because there is that track record,” he said. Climate 200 formally supported five candidates at Saturday’s poll: Hackman, Scruby, Hannan, Helen Conway in North Shore, and Victoria Davidson in Lane Cove.
Scruby’s campaign filed a complaint against Pittwater Liberal Amon over signs directing voters that they could just vote one, which. Meanwhile, the Liberals complained teal signs which urged voters to not “risk a wasted vote” and number every box, implied preferences were mandatory. After endorsing 19 candidates at the 2022 federal election, nine of whom were elected, Climate 200 supported four unsuccessful candidates at the Victorian state election last November.

‘People want to see and vote for integrity’: WardNew South Wales Minister for Metropolitan Roads, Natalie Ward, suggests that people 'want to see and what they were voting for' is 'integrity,' after questioning the integrity of the teal independents. 'I think particularly in North Shore, Manly, and some of those seats where those teals have gone negative really early, I'm not sure about that approach, and for non-party and so-called independence that pride themselves on integrity. I'm not sure how that's played because people tend to see that as negative campaigning.'
