Coal may have generated an exponential increase in prosperity, innovation and human comfort since the Industrial Revolution, but you’d be inviting trouble if you tried to make that point at a North Sydney dinner party.

Teals hypocrisy exposed: Kylea Tink's stern opposition to gas, nuclear energy could come at huge benefit to her big renewable donors

There is no reason she should since we don't expect our parliamentary representatives to be experts on every subject under the sun. Thus, Tink is encouraged to claim the solution to the tangled and contested problem of climate change is a dilute and unreliable form of energy propped up by batteries. Yet the Teals MPs confound their ignorance with hypocrisy by failing to abide by the high standards they demand of other MPs.

In arguing for the retention of the nuclear moratorium, could the Teals be dancing to their sponsor’s tune? With the best will in the world, it’s hard to avoid that conclusion. It is hardly a controversial position, since the vital role of gas is part of The Australian Energy Market Operator’s roadmap.
