Formula 1: Pierre Gasly was not happy after he and teammate Esteban Ocon almost had a disastrous crash on Lap 1 of the Monaco Grand Prix.

'Why did he try to attack me?!' | 00:52For around seven seconds at the Monaco Grand Prix, the Alpine Formula 1 team was experiencing a full meltdown.

From lights out Ocon and Gasly were duelling with one another — hard. Both were bottled up at the first corner — inevitable when starting so close together — and Ocon briefly tried on a move heading into Massenet similar to Kevin Magnussen’s disastrous attempt on Sergio Pérez further. The wheel-to-wheel contact spat Ocon’s car high into the air; it landed with a backbreaking thud that put him out of the race.

Some have speculated that the team boss, who acceded to the role last year in an episode of high bloodshed, could even bench the under-fire Frenchman for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix as punishment. Ocon — fairly or not — also has form riling up his teammates, with Pérez, Fernando Alonso and now Gasly all having had run-ins over the years.Esteban Ocon is on thin ice. Even if Ocon is given a stay of execution for Canada, it’s increasingly clear that this team-driver pairing can’t last.

Williams might at first seem like a crazy move alongside Sauber’s Audi project, but in the context of Sainz’s options all being bottom-five teams anyway, it makes reasonable sense. Haas is heavily tipped to take Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman in Nico Hülkenberg’s place, but in recent weeks the team has made clear Kevin Magnussen must justify a new deal. Wiping both cars out of the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix won’t have done much for his case.

With the top five teams close to accounted for — with Pérez increasingly likely to remain at RBR and with Mercedes heavily favouring a promotion for young gun Andrea Kimi Antonelli — that’s almost all the grid roughly sorted.Tsunoda has long been discounted as a player for 2025 given his strong performances at RB.
