The last time team USA faced Canada in the World Lacrosse Championship, the team in red, white and blue pulled out a thrilling 9-8 victory to capture a gold medal.Wednesday night, captain Jesse Bernhardt and Team USA will again face their rivals from up north, this time in an opening round game played at Snapdragon Stadium.“Yeah, it’s starting off pretty hot against a team like that,” Bernhardt said. “We’re excited.
The top seed, Team USA is in Pool A with Canada, Haudenosaunee , Australia and England. Coach John Danowski’s squad is considered to a favorite to win a 12th world title, with No. 2 seeded Canada generally seen as the second-best team in the field. Bernhardt and Pannell will both be playing in their third world championship after also competing in 2014 when Canada defeated team USA in Denver.
The team that emerges as champion will have endured a grueling schedule that will involve playing seven games in 10 days.
