Hobart officials are preparing to tear down a statue of Tasmania's 15th premier after a report found the city had too many statues of white men. I'd like to propose letting it stand and attempting to educate rather than eradicate, writes Gemma Tognini.

History instructs us. It confronts us. It’s an important, critical part of our collective and individual education. A truly heinous and unthinkable crime, if true. Crowther was punished at the time though the charge was never proven. Crowther was accused of severing and stealing the skull from an indigenous corpse. Decades later, his son continued his work and finished the book, called My Father’s Keeper. It is an astounding read and a reminder of what a fragile tenant peace is.
